In Your Creative Brain, author Shelley Carson (a Harvard psychologist) provides a basic summary of current brain research for laypersons, integrating scientific explanations with a series of self-directed exercises to help individuals enter into what she calls "brainsets", which are specific patterns of thinking designed to maximize creativity. She addresses the ways most people use only one or two of these brainsets, and she offers lots of exercises to help people enter into and rapidly shift between brainsets. By breaking the creative process down into seven specific sub-patterns which can be addressed in a more or less sequential fashion, she makes it possible for anyone, and any project, to be creative. Written in a simple to understand and engaging manner, this book not only discusses how the brain is creative, it helps the reader become more creative through the exercises by increasing mental flexibility and opening the awareness to new ways of approaching situations.
