It is a refreshing read in the Young Adult Paranormal Romance genre. Beginning with the best thing about this story: No Angst filled love triangle over shadowing everything else. That seems to be the growing trend - if you don't have a strong plot, throw in three characters that cannot make up their mind of what they want.
You will know what Evie the Heroine wants very quickly. Her character is a breath of fresh air as well. She actually seems like a normal teenage girl, not an adult mind trapped in a teen's body. It is nice reading about a character that likes the simple things, wants the simple things, and has fun doing pointless things. Instead of drowning in his/her own life.
What Evie doesn't know though - is anything about herself. She thinks she does, but when a mysterious Faerie and a new paranormal becomes part of her story, she finds out that there is a lot she doesn't know. Her trust in the people around her is challenged by things she realizes, but even then she doesn't want to think poorly about the people that have misguided her or wronged her.
The book itself is filled with a lot of great characters. Her best friend Alisha (Lish), a mermaid is amusing - even in the short parts she was in. When everything changes and Evie's world is turned upside down, she doesn't forget or let the people around her (supporting characters) be forgotten. I have read a lot of books where the supporting characters that you like or hate are forgotten when the Author thinks they don't need them anymore. It is nice that this author at least keeps them in thought throughout the book.
It is refreshingly immature at times and the author did a great job bringing her world to life and making it flow and easy to understand. There are a lot of funny, sad, bittersweet, and happy moments in this book and the author pulled off a lot more in 336 pages than what some can in two or three books. She has real talent and I hope she has more stories to tell.
