Think "Lord of the Rings" meets "I Claudius". Even darker than the first novel "A Game Of Thrones", Mr. Martin pulls out all the stops in "A Clash Of Kings". There's murder, rape, incest, and that's only the first couple of chapters. With so much going on it's difficult to keep track of all the characters, even with a scorecard. Still, Mr. Martin has kept me at the egde of my seat with this series (and at almost one thousand pages a book that's a pretty good trick). I generally don't like "door stopper" novels, but I'm making an exception here.
