I have enjoyed all of J.Carson Black's novels. However, I do wonder how much more Laura is going to have to suffer. I liked the twists and turns of the plot, but I was disappointed that the ending was so bleak. Her new partner is maimed. She loses almost everything and the hope of having someone in her life is squashed like a bug. But she does get the bad guy. Her counseling that is floating somewhere in the last book, must have shown her how to accept all this stuff and overcome the stress induced anxiety attacks.

Where's Richie? His tiny storyline was just dropped. At least wrap it up, good or bad - give us some closure.

I read to be entertained. As I see it, Laura's life is depressing and that is not entertaining.
