Editorial Reviews
Deep in the Dark Ages, with Vikings to the north and Aghlabid pirates to the south, a small flicker of the Roman Empire has been nurtured as an island of high civilization. Defeated Longobards scheme to bring it down from within. If Byzantium falls 600 years too soon, nothing of western civilization will survive to spark the Renaissance. Enter Wade Linwood of the 21st Century. Suffering of crossed senses where scents can conjure objects and sights can call up tastes, he wants nothing but the ordinary life of an insurance underwriter. When a trip to the acupuncturist opens an unused portal in his synesthete's brain, a plea from the past draws him to a time when he must save the remaining shreds of history to preserve his own. "Wade of Aquitaine is wonderfully well-written and exciting, an interesting and insightful volume that makes you say to yourself we've got a smart guy writing this. Ben Parris understands the challenge that a writer has, to write sentences that nobody ever wrote before." --George Clayton Johnson (Oceans Eleven, Twilight Zone Movie, Logan's Run)

A Unique Hero's Journey Into History
It's different. That was the first reaction I ingested as I read this most intriguing literary volume from an author who knows how to involve his audience and draw them in; I've never read anything like it!
Wade is, at first, a simple soul who could be anyone we encounter as we go about our daily tasks. He seems to be an underachiever who can't catch a break, but hiding below this benign surface lurks so much more, and Wade is plunged into adventures he never would have experienced if it weren't for his most unique gift, something he might have seen as a curse before...
We lucky readers are pulled along as Wade journeys through time and his own psyche, coming to grips with who he is as he battles forces he never would have imagined to meet in his lifetime. He comes up against strong forces and tests his own mettle and prowess, all while he searches himself for answers and finally encounters another soul like his that reaches out for connection...
I suggest you join Wade as he discovers amazing places, not the least of which will be his own soul. It's well worth the journey.

Wade of Aquitaine will satisfy any Fantasy reader. Through time and space Wade's adventure transports him into history. Fantasy twines through history, while scientific lore adds interest to this wonderful story that gives the reader everything they could want.
Characters are colourful, feel authentic and are beautifully sculpted with historic relevance. The landscape of ancient Europe is used skilfully. While remaining true to Fantasy, the factual side of the story is riveting and just adds another element to a great yarn. The writing flows, the tension mounts and every page must be turned until the last.
I highly recommend this book to all Fantasy readers.

Could not put it down, except to look up things in wikipedia
I loved this book. I would have finished it in one night, except that I kept having to do research on Wikipedia to learn about the different cultures and history of the Dark Ages. If you like history at all you will love this book too. The characters and the story were top notch. I am looking forward to more from this author.
Ben Parris gives a light, almost rom-com touch to a story set in a brutal and unforgiving time. Like writers from Lewis Carroll to Neil Gaiman, he takes someone who might live next door to the reader and throws this character into a sinister yet sublimely beautiful world.
Wade isn't intended to be an everyman, though. He and Kreindel, the object of his affection, experience the world in a way that few of us do. Their unique insights become our insights only because we allow this book to expand the way we think and experience life.
Well-written, divided into quick-read chapters, this engaging novel is the perfect escape for a long commute or antidote for the mind-numbing rays of broadband TV.
Don't just (ahem) wade, but dive in to Ben Parris's book!

A Love Story of Epic Proportions
Grant Me a Higher Love: How to Go from the Relationship from Hell to One that's Heaven Sent by Scaling The Ladder of Love
When I first read Ben's novel, I was stunned by how much knowledge he possessed about the true nature of love. I believe his characters, Wade and Kreindia, are Twin Souls, brought together as all Twin Souls are, to advance humanity. This book is a fascinating read since the love story scans the centuries -- from the dark ages to the 21st century. His attention to detail makes this book come to life for the reader. He is a master of dialogue and his writing style is clean, yet poetic, and the story itself, will keep you reading long into the night. Even if you are not a fan of fantasy or Sci-fi books, you will love this one.

Great sci-fi book (even for those who aren't normally into sci-fi). I stayed up all night to finish the book. Cannot wait to read the next installment!!
Loved it. 5 stars!!!
I recommend to everyone. A fantasy novel that keeps the attention of those who are not fans of the fantasy genre. Like me!

Most Interesting Book I've Read...
Just wanted to say that this is one of the most unique sci-fi/fantasy books I've read in a while...totally worth checking out!
After reading nothing but five star reviews, I was was excited to get this book. I love fantasy and historical fiction but I can't find anything to like in this novel. It's poorly written, the dialog is weak at best, I really wish I had my money back on this one.

It starts out in the conventional world and very plausibly plunges you into the adventure that Wade experiences almost in real time. The reader knows nothing that Wade doesn't know, so you feel everything in the moment and get that sense of chilling and breathtaking discovery with him. The ending is very satisfying and tantalizing at the same time with so many things to look forward to for the rest of the series.
