The Bitch-Proof Suit is a fresh and exciting story with plenty of humor and romance - with all the charm of Dublin and glamor of New York.

When Blue (Bluebell) Byrne is up against the odds in the world of New York fashion marketing, she needs the ultimate in accessories - a bitch-proof suit. Her marketing experience has helped her create the perfect suit. She had it made by bespoke tailors, cut with twice the precision at half the price. No labels, no trends, just sheer cutting edge class.

The story starts in Manhattan. Blue is about to put her suit to the ultimate test when she vies against a boardroom full of conniving business rivals to win the top job assignment - to work in the company’s office in Dublin, Ireland, and settle a few scores at the same time.

The suit, her negotiating skills and gutsy determination helps Blue win the job. Within hours she sets off for Dublin. It’s the one place she swore she’d never go back to. Six years ago she’d left that city behind, along with Morgan Daire, the man who broke her heart, sure she’d never return. It had almost destroyed her once, but hell...she loves a challenge!

She’ll be working with the unspeakably glamorous and influential Verde Valmont, and Verde’s Irish assistant Emer. Blue will also be facing up to the formidable Dubliner, Morgan Daire, the man whose past is inexorably linked with hers. Then there’s her friend, Dublin designer, Murphy, an incorrigible rogue whose flirting causes jealousy and all sorts of trouble. She also encounters the sexy and handsome Sears Pearson, a New York coolhunter, who takes an interest in her. With Morgan and Sears vying for her attention, and Murphy causing misunderstandings, her love life is anything but smooth.

This is a sparkling new novel, brimming with romance, humor, friendship, rivalry, Irish cocktails and scandalous behavior.

Note:
The Bitch-Proof Suit did actually exist. The author, De-ann Black, designed and wore it several years ago when living and working in Dublin, and it served its purpose brilliantly.

About the Author:

De-ann Black is a bestselling author, with over 40 books published, scriptwriter and former newspaper journalist.

She splits her time between Scotland, Dublin and London.

Her latest novels include the thriller The Strife of Riley.

Romantic, funny and wonderfully entertaining.

Bette Bookworm @ 2011-02-21

I love romance novels set in Dublin, and this was every bit as wonderful as I hoped it would be.

The story starts in New York with Bluebell setting off on an exciting assignment to Dublin - and the pace of the novel never lets up. So funny, warm hearted and witty. I loved all the main characters, and I especially liked the friendship that developed between the three women - Bluebell, Verde and their Irish assistant Emer.

Then there are the men - oh yes! Talk about spoiled for choice. I couldn't decide if I preferred the luscious and sexy Dubliner Morgan Daire whose past is linked with Bluebell, or Murphy the hilarious Irish fashion designer. Before I could decide, Sears Pearson, a New York coolhunter, is introduced into the story. Sears (to my mind anyway) is like a young Robert Redford type. I love, love, loved Sears. And then there was the Gorgeous Garda (policeman) who makes a play for Emer. Other minor male characters that really appealed were Harry (Bluebell's friend) and I also found myself liking Randolph, a New York businessman who is a tall, distinguished silver fox.

I don't want to go on about the men (well, obviously I do) but these men were all so different from each other and it was like a breath of fresh air wondering who to root for. I'm still undecided between Morgan Daire and Sears. Tall dark and handsome or tall blond and handsome? Bluebell didn't know who to choose and frankly neither did I. I won't hint or give any spoilers, but I can say that this book was great, and I'm glad to have found a new Irish chick lit/romance author (I'm assuming the author is Irish), and that there's a second book in this series apparently called The Bitch-Proof Bride. Can't wait. I'm in for that one.

I read this book in February when I was in need of something light-hearted and romantic, and it brightened my day enormously. Will be on the lookout for more novels from this author.

Great book!

Jessica Williams @ 2010-10-18

The idea of a "bitch-proof suit" immediately gained my attention and perked my interest in reading this book. What I found was a great suit and a wonderful fairy tale of a love story. I can't wait to read the Bitch-Proof Bride and see what continues to happen in Blue Bell's life. I would love to be able to have my own version of the suit as all of us women need a suit like Blue's, that can shield us from derogatory, bitchy comments. Great book. Quick read and I highly recommend it!

Slow start

Siopao @ 2011-04-03

This book started off slow for me, but eventually became more interesting about 1/3 of the way in. It was a nice mix of romance and comedy.

I want one. *pout*

Kelley @ 2011-05-05

A bitch-proof suit. I need one.

I have to agree with previous reviewers the book started a little slow. Hang in there, though. Once Blue steps on that plane, well, buckle yourself in. This was a really fun romcom.

Loved this book

M. Tikalsky "Miss Me @ 2011-05-04

I was really worried that I wouldn't like this book. To me the story started off slow in the beginning but then quickly picked up the pace. I loved Blue's story and was quickly intrigued with her and her story. This is a laugh out loud book that I found very hard to put down.

Gripping from the start

Vicky ( Winchester) @ 2011-05-26

Loved this book. A real could not put it down. I would highly reccomend it to anyone after a romantic comedy!

6 stars, at least

L. Miller @ 2011-05-26

Best book I've read in quite a while. The language and writing style suited the subject. Characters were well drawn. The usual 'will s/he, won't s/he' misunderstandings were handled more deftly than in most romances (including my beloved regency romances). The story progressed at an even pace from beginning to end, yet the end was not a sure thing nor was it a nail biter. A really fun, relaxing read, with lots of good information about a side of fashion that has always puzzled me: Who decides what's in fashion, and is it true, as my father-in-law used to say, that 'you should never throw out your good clothes. They'll come back in style in 15 or 20 years.' With the possible exception of the Nehru jacket and the leisure suit.

great, light read

Amanda @ 2011-05-18

I found myself laughing out loud at parts of this book! I really enjoyed the witty retorts given and the characters were great. It kept you guessing until the end.

cute book

C. Williams @ 2011-04-06

This was a fun, easy read. Very entertaining.
I enjoyed it, and would definitely read more by this author.

Bit of a disappointment

Mary E. Zilles "Pict @ 2011-05-25

I had high hopes for this book but was rather disappointed. The characters seemed wishy-washy and lacked emotional depth. The plot was shallow and had holes the size of Dublin. Not the best romantic comedy I've read, but if you are looking for a light, breezy read then this might be just the book for you.

Enjoyable

Marly O'Donnell @ 2011-05-27

I had no idea what to expect from this but based on some of the reviews I decided to give it a chance. It's a fun read. If you have an afternoon and want something entertaining, this one's for you. Can't beat the price.

A surprisingly brilliant book

L.A.W @ 2011-05-21

I've read a fair few romances in my time and this one stands out from the crowd, not only because of the title (which is what caught my eye) but because the storyline, the characters and what happens to them was really fresh and original. I liked the writing style which was intelligent and sophisticated. I also found it intriguing that the Bitch-Proof Suit actually did exist.

The humour is the best I've read in years - sharp and witty, my type of humour. It's a book I'll read again because the dialogue was brilliant. A surprisingly brilliant book.

This novel was thoroughly entertaining with a feel good factor to it.

L Briggs @ 2011-05-21

This novel was thoroughly entertaining with a feel good factor to it.

The book was much more than I expected. After some initial rivalry, the women in
the story bond really well, and the antics they get up to keep you grinning all the way
through. All of the characters in this book are great.

It was an exceptionally well written and funny book. I thought it was really original,
especially the idea of a Bitch-Proof suit. Loved some of the chapter titles such as Irish
Martinis and Bad Behavior, and Mayhem at the Extravaganza.

I thought it was a substantial novel, (366 pages in paperback).

This novel was witty with plenty of humour and romance, especially between
Bluebell, Morgan and Sears. And Murphy was hilarious.

Thoroughly recommend it - it was funny and entertaining throughout.
Enjoy your read! L, Briggs

Quick Read very good

Mini @ 2011-05-14

I got this book because it was only .99 and my Kindle is new. The Title alone attracted my eye but my gosh, this is a very quick read. The author did an excellent job in getting and keeping my attention right from the beginning. I would definitely recommend this book.

fun, easy read

R. Anne @ 2011-05-12

This is one of the first books I've read in a long time that wasn't mystery/thriller or fantasy. I didn't think any other genre would hold my attention, but I was wrong. For $0.99, this was a GREAT book. It kept me entertained and intrigued. I would definitely recommend it.

Lol Funny!

Shari C @ 2011-05-12

Perfect for a total escape from every day. Made me laugh out loud more than once and I am really excited to hear about The Bitch Proof Bride--can't be out soon enough for me. Every woman should have the equivalent of the "Bitch Proof Suit."

Excellent

Chrisnlol @ 2011-05-09

This is a fun book, would highly reccomend it if you enjoy anything by Sophie Kinsella, Jill Mansell or the like. I laughed out load, I read a lot and this is a book that I would read again,

Fun & quick read

J. Smith @ 2011-05-07

As others have said, it doesn't grab you at the beginning but as the other characters were introduced, it got pretty interesting and entertaining. I was especially happy with the way things ended up with Verdi. My only disappointment was that I could not see a real picture of the suit. I was dying to know what it really looked like but perhaps it's better to leave that up to each reader's imagination.

I would categorize this as a 'beach book'. Perfect length if you want something you can start and finish in a day. I would purchase other titles from this author.

Great read!

Oooolookie "Omnivoro @ 2011-05-05

This was great fun! Armospheric setting, gorgeous men, witty dialogue. I've paid full price for books that weren't a fraction as good. Gonna look up more from this author. :)

Fun, easy read

Crazyskates @ 2011-04-28

This book was a fun read that kept me snickering on the train to and from work. Looking forward to reading the next one.

Couldn't put it down

Stormy @ 2011-04-25

I loved this book. I found myself laughing out loud much to the consternation of my family. I loved the characters and the story line. Bit sad about Sears (one of the main male stars). I really couldn't put this book down and neglected other things I should have been doing, but what the heck it's the weekend. I would love to read more of this author's books as I think she has a great way of telling a story.

3.5 stars

J @ 2011-04-24

Overall this was a good, fun read. It is not without its faults though. The beginning started slowly and the end seemed rushed. But the stuff in between was great. There were times when I was laughing out loud.

Recommended for anyone who wants a quick, funny read...perfect for a trip to the beach or sitting out by the pool.

A Fun Book

luvs2read @ 2011-04-17

I love British Chick Lit, and this did not disappoint me. It took me a few chapters to get into the book, but once I did I enjoyed it. I look forward to more books by this author. If you like a little Romance, Wit, and humour, you will enjoy this book. Well worth the price!

Such a great read

Strong Bow @ 2011-03-27

This book was witty, original, funny and entertaining all the way through. It's a brilliant read if you enjoy romantic comedy. From start to finish it was filled with wonderful characters and the things that happened to them really made me laugh.

The writing was so good that I almost thought I was reading the book of a movie. I love books like that.

The writing was professional (which I would expect from someone who was a newspaper journalist and written 40 books).

Such a great read. I actually read Black's thriller (The Strife of Riley) which was first class, and then came across this and thought I'd give it a try. So glad I did.

No Romance, or Plot

cupcake @ 2011-05-24

What a disappointment! The writing was amateurish. I like to read books by authors who are clearly smarter than me. The spelling and grammatical errors were a real turn-off. "Daring do" for "derring-do" and "loose" for "lose" to name just two. There was absolutely no character development for the men in the story. No romantic relationship was ever developed between the main characters. Don't waste your time.

Proof that I'm a bitch

Dulcie Mainwaring "b @ 2011-05-26

I made the terrible mistake of loading this book on my iPad before a long flight. Omg. After a few pages, I was beginning to feel the horrible desperation of the avid reader WITHOUT A BOOK. Because, my friends, this is not a book. Certainly not a proper book with a beginning, an end, some degree of character development, and a story arc. It is a dreadful mish-mash of cliches and utterly unrealistic events. There are also a lot of misspelled words (pet peeve of mine). Here's how I knew almost immediately this book would not really be about fashion. Her "Bitch-proof suit" is described as having an A-line skirt. The last time I saw anyone wearing an A-line skirt was in the seventies. This book is embarrassingly awful. And I wasn't looking for literature, just a fun read to pass the time.

However, my huge issue with books of this sort is this; who are the people writing the glowing reviews? Because after reading the reviews, and then actually reading this book means I simply cannot trust Amazon reviews. There is no way an actual reader could find this book to be anything but dreadful and amateurish. IMHO.

Terrible Buy

res judicata @ 2011-05-20

I like romantic comedy books like Sophie Kinsella, Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Robin Wells. This Book is nothing like those. It has little real romance, the print doesn't work for me and I do not like Blue or Verde. Sigh. A waste of money.

The only thing missing is Fabio on the cover.

R. D. Morrow @ 2011-05-11

'Romantic comedy' is really stretching the truth. While there's tons of unbelievable romantic situations, there's absolutely no comedy...other than the plot.

Don't waste your time or money.

Where's the romance and comedy?

Araminta @ 2011-05-20

This was disappointing. I was expecting more comedy and humor but I didn't find any in the novel at all. I definitely wouldn't call it a romantic comedy. And the romance part was lacking too. I did think there wasn't really much going on with the main characters romantic relationship until right at the end. I wasn't sure throughout the whole novel what Blue's company did. Blue is supposed to be a future hunter, trying to work out new fashion trends but the company she works for organizes all sorts of fashion shows etc. There wasn't much plot to this story and not very much actually happened.

Should have bitch proofed the reviews...

Napalilli @ 2011-05-22

UNFORTUNATELY she did not. I'm a huge fan of romantic comedies, chick flicks, chick-lit, etc... My husband is constantly amazed at my tolerance for atrocious writing all for the sake of a good time at the movies or with a book. However this one challenged even me. It felt so disjointed, so trumped up, so outrageously under-developed even for 'just a chick lit'. It almost felt like an actual fashionista trying to cobble a travel journal with wild flights of fantasy into a book. It was terrible terrible terrible. The characters, even the ones on every page, were still so woefully under-developed that they were hard to like,to care about, to root for. It was a disjointed mish mash of name and fabrics and ludicrous characters & situations. USE YOUR 99 CENTS ELSEWHERE!

Basic clothing pattern

Crystal L. Charnock @ 2011-05-23

Similar to a clothing pattern, this book had the beginnings of a great one. It had really funny moments and the fashion references were part of the reason that I bought the book...sadly towards the end it fell flat. I felt the actual "bitch proof suit" should have been more of a character than it was; what made it bitch proof exactly and what type of fabric was it? It seemed like the writer did basic research on the topic of fashion and the setting of the book, Dublin, Ireland. I wanted to feel like I was there and to be able to visualize the fabrics and fashion. If the book is used as a template and added too, it would be an awesome book.

Mindless read

Casey A @ 2011-05-20

I'm halfway through this book and I'm kicking myself for even wasting the time it took me to get that far. I rarely find a book that I can't stomach finishing and I will not be finishing this one. The plot is extremely thin and slow developing. I keep waiting for it to get good and I'm continually disappointed. I hate to say it, but this is one of those examples of getting what you paid for...don't waste you money, or more importantly, your time!

Not even worthy of beach-reading.

AvidReader @ 2011-05-22

I purchased this book on my Kindle after seeing it pop up repeatedly in my recommendations....and I would not recommend adding this book to anyone's collection, even if it was free.
The plot was scattered, at best. None of the characters had any depth or redeeming qualities to make a reader get behind them - at no point throughout the story was the reader given any of the following: 1. a real look at Blue's relationship history with Morgan; 2. any indication that Blue had strong feelings for anyone, other than herself; a plausible explanation why all of the men in the book seemed to be drawn to Blue.
Also, I'd like to thank the editor(s) responsible for proof-reading this book before it was sent out to publishing...he/she/they had clearly called in sick and failed to perform even a preliminary proofing - that is the only explanation I can come up with regarding how this book was released. At one point, Blue, in an attempt to create a clearer picture to the reader of the events around her, actually says to the reader, "You had to be there." Seriously?? This is a book! We can't "be there" in a fictional place - that's why it's the author's job to make us readers FEEL like we're "there!"
Such a ridiculous, absurd book. Do not waste your time.
