The 4400 were only the beginning. Now anyone can become extraordinary. The rewards are great. But so are the risks. . .

Mere months have passed since a viral outbreak transformed Seattle. Over nine thousand people died horribly, while thousands more gained remarkable new abilities. The disaster has also left Jordan Collier, the charismatic leader of The 4400 Movement, in charge of the city, much to the dismay of the rest of the world.

To Collier's followers, the birth of "Promise City" heralds the dawn of a glorious new future that will forever change the face of humanity. But not everyone welcomes Collier's vision of tomorrow. An international conspiracy, composed of many of the world's most powerful figures, will stop at nothing to destroy the Movement, even if it means igniting an all-out war against Promise City.

NTACNTAC agents Tom Baldwin and Diana Skouris find themselves caught in the middle of a historic clash as they try to save Seattle from both Jordan Collier and his mortal enemies...with the future of the planet hanging in the balance.

The saga of The 4400 continues.

A wonderful extension of the series

Daniel Kemp @ 2009-08-11

I was a huge fan of the The 4400, and after an amazing 4th Season I couldn't believe it was canceled. The final season's cliffhanger left me desperately hoping that the show would make a return somehow. Not long ago I introduced my girlfriend to the show on DVD, and while looking at its Wikipedia page I noticed that 2 books were coming out to finish off the story.

This first book picks up right where the show ended, and for fans of the show it's easy to see the scenes playing out in your head. I don't know if the author received guidance from the creators as to where to take the story, but it feels very natural and satisfying. The book is well written and it's a thrill to be able to continue the saga. The book does advance the plot a good amount, but with only one book left it seems there will be a whole lot of ground to cover before reaching a satisfying ending. After reading "Welcome to Promise City," however, I'm confident The 4400 will finally get the finale it deserves.

Almost perfect

small review @ 2009-12-04

I knew the show had been canceled prematurely before I watched all four seasons on DVD but, being the glutton for punishment I am, I went ahead and watched them anyway. How bad could the lack of ending be? I thought. I never anticipated how great the show would be and how hooked I would become. I rarely read tv/movie novelizations, but after the last episode I frantically searched Amazon for any available book that might give me some closure.

*If you haven't finished watching the series, then don't read any further*

Lucky for me I found Welcome to Promise City and quickly ordered a copy. This book picks up directly after the last episode where Collier's P-Positives were controlling Seattle after the promicin outbreak left thousands dead and NTAC scrambling. Everything that happens in the book follows perfectly with the TV show: the characters think, talk, and behave as they did on the show and, thankfully, the author completely avoided adding any tweaks to their personalities as so often happens in books like this. Not only are the characters consistent, but the plot follows perfectly in line with what would have likely happened in the show had it continued.

All of the core characters (including the Marked) appear in the book and play significant roles in advancing the plot. The only reason I gave the book four stars instead of five is because, given we only have two books to wrap up the entire series, not enough happened in this book. A lot did happen, but with only one more book to go, there will either be a rush of action, or too many unanswered questions in the final book.

Promise City

This book is the perfect continuation of the show. It blends perfectly with the last season with a plausible story line. All the characters stay true to the show and almost all of them are included. Promises Broken felt like watching the show again. It made me miss the series even more! Fantastic book!

As good as the show

Renaud Hulin "Ryan" @ 2009-11-25

Being a huge fan of the 4400, I was disappointed when the show got cancelled. But this book is very good (really lives up to the expectations) and it's on the Kindle! Hurray!
There is a second book that I still have to read but this one is good so I hope they will keep writing for the fans!

Poorly written and very disappointing

C. Bensinger @ 2010-05-10

I was a fan of the 4400 TV show, and was very irked it was cancelled - particularly given the resulting lack of resolution of major plotlines. Accordingly, I was excited to see this book and the sequel, "Promises Broken", which purportedly resolve the various stories (presumably taking the place of the intended fifth season) - particularly so given the uniformly stellar Amazon reviews. Unfortunately, both books (yes, I forced myself through both of them) truly sucked - basically, they are (bad) fan fiction. The writing is at best on a high school level. The characterization is generally non-existent (and to the extent there, often inconsistent from that in the show and even between the two books - e.g., one major character is largely a pacifist in Welcome to Promise City and somehow suddenly a bloodthirsty killer in Promises Broken). Perhaps worst of all, the supposed resolution is deeply unsatisfying and illogical. Frankly, I find it surprising that either of the two authors manages to make a living as such, although apparently they do so simply by churning out Star Trek and other derivative works with built in audiences that will eat up whatever drivel they produce (see, e.g., the other Amazon reviews for these two books). Lest you think I am some type of intellectual or otherwise elitist snob, look, I've read my share of brain candy sci-fi that is far from superb - e.g., David Weber's Honor Harrington series and Jack Campbell's Lost Fleet series, neither of which is exactly great literature but both of which I enjoyed. These books, however, were awful. I would have felt that I overpaid for them if only $2.00 each, much less $8.00 (plus the wasted hours of my life spent reading them).

Excellent Series Continuation

David Keith "FurNTat @ 2010-03-21

Pitch perfect series continuation. Couldn't ask for more in a 4400 novel. Picks up where from where the show ends. Would love to see Greg Cox write more of these books! Thanks from a fan.

Continuing the TV Series

SciFiChick "www.SciF @ 2009-09-17

The 4400: Welcome to Promise City picks up the storyline where the TV series ended. After the promiacin outbreak, thousands died in Seattle, and the surviving thousands were left with new abilities. And Jordan Collier stepped up as leader of the city. A group of mysterious undercover operatives have made it their mission to bring down Collier and stop the spread of promiacin. Meanwhile, Tom Baldwin and Diana Skouris try to track down who stole the body of Tom's nephew, the catalyst of the recent outbreak of promiacin. NTAC is worried that someone may be using the diseased boy's body to further spread promiacin to the unsuspecting world.

As a big fan of the TV show, I was ecstatic to hear that the novels would be continuing the story. And this latest book was a wonderful addition. All of the characters are fighting the same struggles: Tom debating on whether or not to take the shot, Kyle's hallucinatory ability and struggling between loyalty to Jordan and his father, and Richard dealing with vengeance over the death of his daughter.

With ample suspense, action, and intrigue, fans of The 4400 will not be disappointed. A complex storyline involves all of the main characters, and offers some shocking surprises along the way. The characters have all the depth and conflicts that we've come to know. The danger of Collier's followers and the opposing faction is coming to a head. And I loved every minute of it.

Fantastic Read

This was an excellent follow-up to the abrupt ending of the 4400 show. I already knew all of the characters, and their backgrounds, so this story was simple to follow and I could practically visualize the characters acting out their scenes. The story was left open for a sequel to the book, as one of the Marked survived with the essenses of the others. I wish the book was quite longer, and maybe explored Izzy a bit more and apossible Collier being Marked story. But I highly recommend this book to any 4400 fan.
