The unity of the team is threatened on their first mission.

Finally someone who knows the characters well enough so that you can see them as you read. The author took me on a journey without trying to using every Jack-ism ever utterd, or back flashing to a dozen past episodes every five minutes. Julie Fortune has hit it right on the Sg-1 head, just enough Daniel spout to move the story along. Smooth diolaog and a firm plot. There are acutely some tense moments that came out of her good story telling, not stilted peril. I hope to see her name on future SG-1 novels, heaven knows we need someone who can be true to the spirt of series.
Let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of stargate and have read a lot of fanfiction. I was very undecided about purchasing this book because I was actually looking for something set further in the series. (This book is set after the show "emancipation") But out of sheer desperation to get my stargate fix, I decided to purchase this book. And WOW, it was great. The author got the characters just right. The story is wonderfull, full of action, adventure, suspense and the requisite evil goau'ld.
I recomend this book highly
I recomend this book highly
Sacrifice Moon, by Julie Fortune, is, hands down, the best Stargate SG-1 book.
But more than that, it is a very good book on its own merits -- well written; good characterization; a very nice "team" feel. It is set very early in the series so the characters are getting to know each other, and we find out more about them. There is exploration, and first contact with an alien culture, but the mission turns dark quickly and the adventures start coming fast and furious as the tension mounts.
I strongly recommend this book. Enjoy!

well written easy to follow hard to put down
Good story line, flowed well with the characters and personalities of the TV series ( important to me) I was sad to see the TV series go and have found the SG-1 books I have read so far to be very good fill-ins. The first one I read was Roswell and was hooked on the books after that.
This one was really good one, but I noticed that it took place from Jack's point of view and his feelings for his team were already starting to grow strong. All the issues were there including they were just getting used to working together and for Daniel he was just getting used to being back with his original team-mates and being on earth again, but at the same time dealing with the loss of his wife for a while. The story got off to a slow start, but by the middle of the book it was really interesting since it was more along the lines of going into the season 1 epsiode" The Broca Divide" since they were being infected with another piece of alien technology just before they had to deal with it. All in all it was a really good story and I recommend it to any who like the series.
Fierce and intensely interesting - great characterization
Sacrifice Moon was one of the best Stargate books I have ever read - and I am a choosy snob when it comes to that list. The characterization of each team member is great and very specific. The book showed and focused on each character, not just generically brushing over each to get the 'feel'. The planets are fully realized, with character and flavor. This book can get a little dark and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under fifteen, but it's intriguing and fierce, just what I LOVE about Stargate SG-1. It's an earlier book and some of those are risky to buy, but this one is very much in the spirit of the TV episodes as well as professionally, skillfully written. I love the characterization of Daniel and Sam as they make their scary metamorphosis - and was slightly amused and taken aback to find myself fascinated and even attracted by a deadlier, more graceful Season One Daniel Jackson.
This is the first SG-1 tie-in novel that I read and wow, it's amazing. Julie Fortune nailed the team-ness, that always made me love the show, perfectly. This book describes the new team's first mission and their fight against the Goa'uld Artemis. It's perfect, the little insights into their characters and thoughts, their care for each other, their banter... Jack's inner monologue is simply hilarious!
The author, Julie Fortune, did an outstanding job here. The dialog is nearly perfect for the voices of Jack, Daniel, and Teal'c. Perhaps a bit off for Sam, but very close. The story is told almost entirely from Jack's point of view, yet with the wide-eyed wonder that Daniel expresses for the culture. I found the pace to be very good, and in fact could hardly put the book down. Highly recommended for fans who miss SG-1.
I could not put this book down. It flowed quite nicely! Everything about SG1 was in there. The relationship between the team is all there and the just the way they go about handle a crisis. The author really has a way to keep your attention. I am planning to read it again. 'NO ONE GETS LEFT BEHIND.'
I very much enjoyed this story and it was pretty well written. A few military acronyms and jargon in the narrative bugged me, but it didn't happen often.
Good read for Stargate SG-1 fans
I really enjoyed it. In fact I could not put the book down until I was done reading it. If you like Stargate SG-1, then this is the book for you. I was worried that it would not be as good as the show and was surprised that it was perfect. The author represented the characters very well. Feel free to buy it, you will not be disappointed.
This is a continuation of the Fandy books. This one is set in the beginning of the team's relationship, and it brings out the characters dark and weaker sides. It is a little more violent than some of the other books, but still a good read. It was nice to be able to envision the team as they were just starting out.
This was my second sg1 Fandimonium book, and I have to say it was almost perfect. The only thing that turned me off was the attempt at linking the bloodlust with eroticism: not why I read Stargate books. Other than that, it was alost as great as The Barque of Heaven, which was my first -and I have to say, the standard for all to follow. Really great read. Here's to the team continuing on many more adventures in the future - even if we can't watch them do their thing on the tube (except in reruns) anymore!
This truly does read like an episode right off of TV. Although the story doesn't read like it's their first mission and there are a few too many times the author has Daniel Jackson use the term/word "God" and a few other small details in dialogue - it reads well and keeps you interested until the end. Very nice storyline and a joy to read.
The Stargate fan novels are very true to the characters and are the equivalent to watching an episode on SCI FI, only in most cases better. Some of the books are just new adventures written by fans, good, but not great. While others are Great adventures where the author actually expands on the depth of the character and team, fills in gaps that us fans have always thought or guessed about. So far all the SG-1 books have had Jack in them, not Cam. I am using this as a generic review for all the books rather than risk spoiling anything in the stories. I have watched all episodes in the series (both SG-1 and SG-A), heck I own every published season, and as much as I hate to admit it I have seen every episode at least twice, in short, I am a Stargate nut. I have purchased all books written in the SG-1 and SG-A series, though not all of them through Amazon due to availability. Sometimes the shipping takes a long time since they are published in the U.K.
As far as Stargate novels go, this is not one of the better ones. It has a horror element that never would have made it into the show. Too much gore for a family audience. There is plenty of action and whumping of our beloved characters, especially near the end, though, if that is your cup of tea. The middle takes patience and perseverance to get through. If you're looking for a Stargate novel that could have easily been an episode of the series, read The Barque of Heaven instead. That one is great!
Being an avid fan I looked forward to this book only to find it anything but the Stargate fun I found in the other novels. This book's genre should be classified as horror and the plot is just a small part of the horror. Some parts are interesting but then it goes way over in redundant boring fight scenes that make you feel like a b slasher movie. I am glad to see that that author has never published again for Stargate novels. Anything but an enjoyable read.
