Good Guide for Transition to Excel 2007

K. Scott Proctor @ 2007-11-04

This book serves as a good guide for the transition to Microsoft Excel 2007 from earlier versions of Excel. Excel 2007 offers a user interface that differs significantly from earlier versions of Excel, and this book offers a good walk-through of the features and functionality of Excel, with a strong emphasis on the new user interface of Excel 2007.

I am a frequent and long-time user of Excel (and the author of a book on financial modeling using Microsoft Excel) and I found "Microsoft Office Excel 2007 Plain & Simple" to be helpful in making the transition from an earlier version of Excel to Excel 2007.

This is an introductory book, but the layout and manner of presentation make it accessible and easy to use. I recommend it to Excel users making the switch to Microsoft Excel 2007.

Where are the Pivot Tables?

J. L. Utter @ 2009-01-09

The book seems excellent as an intro to the changes for Excel 2007, but the publisher blurbs above mention Pivot Tables. They are nowhere to be found in the index and I have yet to find any mention of them anywhere in the text.

Since that area was 50% of the reason for my decision on this purchase, I am quite a bit perturbed right now!

screen shots to small to read w/o magnifying glass

kris28 @ 2009-12-12

It is fitting that the cover shows a magnifying glass; the screen shots are so small as to be almost unreadable without one. A number of the pages are also fuzzy due to offset printing issues. The online option is terrible as well with the screen shots not only tiny but the images are grainy and fuzzy and get worse with enlargement. I got my money back. As for the one-star rating, I could not complete the review without it.

Just ok!

Sheila A. Bledson "l @ 2009-12-04

I thought that this would be a little more extensive but, what did I expect for 14.95:-)? I know that it says simple but, some everyday use items are not even in here. There are a few things that I thought would be here and I would not have to refer back to my large book but, it serves the purpose for simple items. Certain functions really need to be in here and they aren't.

Office Excel plain & simple

Valerie Miller @ 2009-01-13

I was very impressed with this book. I have enough Excel ability to be dangerous. Yet by using this guide, I am now much more comfortable using Excel. I would recommend this for anyone needing to learn more.

Great training manual

Suzanne Smith "ML Su @ 2008-09-05

This was ordered for a colleague who needed to learn Excel 2007 within a couple of days and make the jump from Office 2000. This manual helped her to learn the tasks that needed to be immediately accomplish and has served as a great reference manual.

Excellent book!

Kathy L. Hoke @ 2008-09-28

This is exactly what I need. I don't have to read it cover to cover, I just look up what function I need to do and find the page and it tells me how to do it. Thanks Curtis D. Frye!

Great Text

RJK @ 2010-10-24

I purchased this text to use in the adult education class that I teach. Like the title says it is "Plain and Simple" and easy to follow. The only thing that could make it better would be a practice file disk to go with the lessons.

Good book

Alen @ 2010-07-27

I really like this book, because it is simple and easy to understand. I would recommend this book to others.

So So manual

Bonnie Trott "sewing @ 2010-03-17

This is not a very person freindly book because it's written in a language that would apply to someone who already knows the program. But as far as the seller, quick to mail and packaged accordingly. Good price.

Excellent Reference & Study Series

Nancy J. Strohmeyer @ 2009-07-16

All of the "Plain & Simple" series on MS Office products are good, accurate and strong reference/learning books. I totally recommend them - I have been using Excel and Word for well over 20 years.

ADVISORY: DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!!!

Ms. Jackson @ 2008-08-06

This book is not for anyone new to Excel 2007. It was written with advance users in mind. Nowhere could I find in the book exactly how to get started with Excel; a step by step guide. I'm still struggling with Excel, yet am finding some knowledge through instructional lessons on youtube.com. So if you've never used Excel before, here's my hard learned advise:
skip this worthless book and go to youtube.com and type in excel. There's all kinds of lessons there.
