In LOVED (Book #2 in the Vampire Journals), Caitlin and Caleb embark together on their quest to find the one object that can stop the imminent vampire and human war: the lost sword. An object of vampire lore, there is grave doubt over whether it even exists.

If there is any hope of finding it, they must first trace Caitlin’s ancestry. Is she really the One? Their search begins with finding Caitlin’s father. Who was he? Why did he abandon her? As the search broadens, they are shocked by what they discover about who she really is.

But they are not the only ones searching for the legendary sword. The Blacktide Coven wants it, too, and they are close on Caitlin and Caleb’s trail. Worse, Caitlin’s little brother, Sam, remains obsessed with finding his Dad. But Sam soon finds himself in way over his head, smack in the middle of a vampire war. Will he jeopardize their search?

Caitlin and Caleb’s journey takes them on a whirlwind of historic locations—from the Hudson Valley, to Salem, to the heart of historic Boston—the very spot where witches were once hung on the hill of Boston Common. Why are these locations so important to the vampire race? And what do they have to do with Caitlin’s ancestry, and with who she’s becoming?

But they may not even make it. Caitlin and Caleb’s love for each other is blossoming. And their forbidden romance may just destroy everything they’ve set out to achieve….

Although LOVED is the sequel to TURNED, it also stands alone as a self-contained novel. LOVED is 51,000 words.

“LOVED, the second book in the Vampire Journals series, is just as great as the first book, TURNED, and jam packed with action, romance, adventure, and suspense. This book is a wonderful addition to this series and will have you wanting more from Morgan Rice. If you loved the first book, get your hands on this one and fall in love all over again. This book can be read as the sequel, but Rice writes it in a way that you do not need to know the first book in order to read this wonderful installment.”

Unbelievable! From start to finish I was on the seat of my chair. If u're in the mood for a graphic, gripping adventure, this book is for you. Was very happy when I saw the sequel come out. Hope there will be another one!

Chilling and Romantic

This sequel doesn't let you down. It is just as good as part one. (you don't have to read part one to love this book however).
I love twilight and other paranormal romances. This great author has really come out of nowhere. The story is scary and sexy at the same time. Romantic too. An original twist on the vampire genre impossible? Not here. It's the best of what you like in a vampire novel, plus a great twist to boot.

OH MY FREAKING GOSH!!!

Loved: A Fantastic Follow Up to Turned

WendyC @ 2011-04-04

Loved: Another fantastic installment of the Vampire Journals by Morgan Rice. It continues right where Turned left off. Caitlin and Caleb have escaped New York City and have headed back to Caitlin's hometown of Oakville. There, Caitlin searches for her brother Sam as well as her father. She finds out she holds "the key" to the whereabouts of the sword that will finally end the Vampire War. Caitlin and Caleb set out in search of her father and end up in Salem, Mass. Come to find out Caitlin may be related to one of the Salem witches Elizabeth Paine as well as Nathaniel Hawthorne who wrote "The Scarlett Letter." Throughout their quest, they become closer as Caitlin tries to make sense of who she really is. This book left you hanging (literally). Ms. Rice can't write the third installment fast enough. I need to know what happens!!!!

Captivating! Keeps you enthralled...

I have to say, after reading the first book, which was shorter, I was excited and couldn't wait to get ahold of the second book, Loved. It was one of those take your breath away type of books that kept you reading so you could find out what happens next. The characters are easy to follow and the story line is well written. It keeps your interest from the first word into it. I am a 38 year old woman and even though these type of books are written towards the young adult audience, us older folks can enjoy reading this story and anticipate the next book in line to come. Keep up the great work!

READ IT NOW ITS AMAZING

I read the first one with some interest, but this one really kicked it up a lot. This one gave me more of the story about what was going on and built on the relationships. It was a great adventure/love/drama/mystery story!

What if Indiana Jones was a vampire?

lovestodive @ 2011-05-27

Loved is the second book in the Vampire Journals series, which takes up where Turned left off. Caitlin, at eighteen years old, has discovered she is possibly half vampire and might actually be The One, the person destined to find the lost sword which could stop the upcoming vampire/human war. She and Caleb, a vampire who has lived thousands of years, undertake a quest to discover her ancestry in hopes of discovering the location of the sword. Caitlin's fifteen year old brother, Sam, is on a quest of his own to find their father, whom they never knew. Along the way, both Caitlin and Sam will encounter situations and people that will test their belief in their own inner strengths as well as their physical limits.

Loved reminded me a bit of a younger version of an Indiana Jones type tale as Caitlin and Caleb are led on a trail from one clue to another, each leading them a little closer to their goal of finding the sword. Each clue leads to a historical destination where we are given a different explanation of the historical facts that we learned as children. The author gives us a different twist on vampire lore, with two distinct covens of vampires. There is good versus evil, where the good are trying to live their lives amongst humans peacefully and cause no harm, the evil are truly evil beings with nothing but distain for both their vampire counterparts and the humans they must hide from. There are three different plot lines in the book, all of which are leading toward the same goal. Caitlin and Caleb's quest is the main plot, Sam's search for their father factors in and yet another plot plays out with a truly evil being in the search as well. Amidst everything else, the attraction between Caitlin and Caleb continues to grow adding just another twist to the story.

I did not read the first book, yet had no problem catching up with what was happening and following the plot. While the underlying story was a good one, I did have a few issues. There were a number of editing errors that should have been caught. Caitlin is written as very insecure, often wondering what, if anything, Caleb feels for her and marveling at his wonderfulness. Yet each time a clue is found Caleb comes up with "oh yea, that's an important part of vampire history" while Caitlin is the one figuring out the clues. I was a little confused as to who the audience was for the story. It is written in a style that would appeal more to the younger adult or even tweens, yet there are scenes with casual underage drug use and sex (though only mentioned and not explicit) as well as some pretty intense violence that might make some younger people uncomfortable and would most certainly make parents think twice.

Even with the issues above, the book is a good read that ends with the cliffhanger that will make you want to read the next one to find out what happens.

love and lust.

Great!

amanda rice @ 2011-04-25

I really did like the book. In fact, i read it im one sitting. i really liked the story line. However, the typos are extremely annoying. The last time i checked, that is what editors are there for. I would definitely recommend the book to anyone as long as typos dont bother you

Much Better than Book 1 (3 1/2 Stars really)

E_Lo @ 2011-03-29

If you read the first book you know the story was short and left you hanging. This one delivers a bigger cliffhanger but there was a lot more excitement. The characters were a little more developed too. There were plenty of typos, enough to distract you. This was also a short book, albeit much longer than the first one. Also, if you do not like a book to end on a cliffhanger maybe wait til the next one comes out.

I think what I enjoyed most about the book was the history in it. I like when a book includes actual history in a fantasy book.

For the price and originality of the story I do recommend it. I could not give it more than 3 stars due to length and typos.

Happy reading.

Good story, bad editing...

S. Mcshane @ 2011-04-22

This is essentially the same review I wrote for book 1. I had hoped the editor would have improved between publishing, but not so. The story has great potential and was interesting for a YA vampire novel. The problem was the ridiculous number of spelling, grammatical and editing errors. I was so distracted by the errors, I had a hard time following the story. Youth today can barely put together a proper sentence without including text language... I would hope that the books they read would set an example of proper grammar. Not so much here. A big disappointment.

Loved the Suspense, and the mystery....

Inked @ 2011-04-18

This book was fantastic. Even Better than the first. I loved the Indiana Jones type feel to it, with all fo the clues mixed in with real history. It was great! Some typo's but over all a great read.

Loved "Loved"!

Traci Vogler @ 2011-04-06

Much better then the first book! I almost didn't read this one because the first book didn't excite me much. My only issue with this book is that there are TONS of typos, it's like come on isn't that what editors are for or even just spell check?!

Decent Sequel

Clever Euphemism @ 2011-03-22

In the sequel to Turned, Morgan Rice proves herself to again be a good story teller. The story moved along well, and the ended with a cliff hanger that leaves you anticipating the next installment in the series. My only complaint is the heroine is really annoying with her constant doubting of herself and amazement at the love interest in the book. She constantly, and I mean on pretty much every page, doubts why the guy would like her and is constantly in awe of any talent he has. Besides that, an enjoyable read. Looking forward to the next book, and hoping for some more character development in the heroine and that she finally gets some confidence!
