This told me exactly how to use this feature but.....the robotic voice is so annoying that I will never use this feature.
this was a 3 page waste of time and money. it did not teach how to do text to speech. i want my money back.

This book is universally considered garbage and a waste of money yet it has accidentally got more stars than intended. A kindle glitch but no mistake about this being a ripoff of information inckuded in your users guide.

Thank you for the tips. I don't love the robotic voice, but it is still nice to use while I am working. No need to purchase a how to guide!
not worth the 99 cents, should have just read the instruction book. the text reader is too monotonous, not easy to listen to anyway, so don't use text to speech. However it is easy to follow and very direct to the point of the product.
It is useless to buy this ebook.
it gave me nothing to understand my kindle book more than I knew from my own kindle so why don't Amazon Company delete this item out from a list?
Nice feature to have...poor results
It is nice to have an option of someone reading to you. However, I had expected the voice to be somewhat appealing and not so monotone and "blah".
I love my Kindle and use it a lot. It is so convient and easy to use. I started using it the day I got it. I'm still learning different things I can do with it. It is easy to find out about features I haven't used by searching the manual that comes on the Kindle.

Instead of spending money on buying some tips and tricks, you can use this little money to help some charity.
Below are the instructions I copied from e-bookvine, adding some of my tips.
Your Kindle can read aloud your books (where allowed by the rights holder), newspapers, magazines, blogs, and personal documents with the Kindle Experimental application, Text-to-Speech.
To turn on Text-to-Speech:
1. Press the Text key (aA) while you are viewing the reading book.
2. Use the 5-way controller navigation to go down to select "turn on" next to the "Text-to-Speech" option.
3. Press the Text key (aA) again to adjust the speaking voice and rate, or select female or male voice.
4. You can also slow down or increase the rate of speech and pause or turn off Text-to-Speech. While Text-to-Speech is playing, the screen will automatically advance to the next page upon reading the end of the current page.
Note:
1. Text-to-Speech starts reading at the beginning of the page currently displayed. To start reading at a particular spot, move the cursor where you'd like the reading to begin before starting Text-to-Speech.
2. If the "Text-to-Speech" option is grayed and you're not able to select it, that indicates the rights holder does not allow use of Text-to-Speech for their content.
3. The TTS option only works for book purchased from Amazon or book that has filename ended with .prc extension.
To read other books that you have as pdf or doc, first you should convert from pdf or doc to .prc using some of the ebook applications around. Then copy them over to your Kindle book folder.
I'm using the Mobipocket Creator, which is free for now and one of the best tools so far.
4. BTW, TTS on Kindle currently only reads English :-) Don't ever try to load the books in your own language such as Cambodian, Indian, Chinese, or Vietnamese. It won't work or will read out loud to you in a weird language only you may understand some :-)
5. You can also make your Kindle more organized in category folders by using Creating Collection option on the Kindle, then go to the folder and follow the display instructions on the screen to add books.
