IF EVER THERE WAS A TIME TO “TRUST LOIS” THIS WOULD BE IT.
When the home office adds an unexpected crew member to the environmental section of the Lois McKendrick, Ishmael Wang faces being put ashore at the next port. Not even his multiple division ratings can save him because he refuses to bump someone else in his place. In just a few days, Ishmael will lose both his friends and the home he has made for himself while traveling through the Deep Dark.

Just when he thought matters could not get any worse, an EMP damages the ship and threatens the lives of everyone on board. Gone are the days when Ish’s biggest challenge was making a good cup of coffee. Now he must use his wits and rely on the ingenuity of his shipmates just to survive. Return with the crew of the SC Lois McKendrick, in what may prove to be their final voyage. All your favorites will be aboard including: Ish, Pip, Cookie, Brill, Diane, and Big Bad Bev.

This series gets better with each new book!

Norm Hartnett @ 2011-05-19

No massed missile launches, no slashing laser beams, no fleet actions and yet this is one of the best Science Fiction series I have read in years. C. S. Forester without war, O'Brian without the death. Realistic merchant marine life in space, a coming of age series in the space age. Each of the first two books in the series, Quarter Share and Half Share only set the stage for this story. Here we begin to see the full development of Ish and a sense of where the series might take us. I can not recommend this book and this series highly enough, I need more stars!

Love this Book

Just wanted to say I love this book and the entire series. I have purchased it for my Kindle but have not read it yet. I have listened to the podcast three times. I can not believe there would be a lot of difference in the two. I will read and post here any further comments I may have.

Keeps getting better...

Excellent! Most enjoyable reading.

I heartily recommend Nathan Lowell's Full Share to all SciFi fans. Ish and his shipmates are interesting and likable people, thanks to the author's skill, and I am enjoying Ish's growing-up saga tremendously. I'm already impatient for the next one!

Not the best, not the worst I've ever read

E5 @ 2011-05-26

I was very excited to see that Full Share was now available for the Kindle -- I had flown through Quarter and Half within a day and wanted more. Unfortunately, I think it will be my last purchase in the series. It's not bad, per se, but it doesn't achieve the standard of Quarter Share.

In QS, Ish was thrown upon the mercy of others for his livelihood, and in many ways he was a true innocent. It followed him learning about how a space freight operation works and starting to feel comfortable in his new environment. I really enjoyed QS.

Half Share wasn't quite as enjoyable, for me; as other reviewers have said on that book's page, there was a bit of a disconnect centered around the "shopping" scene, and a lot of it really came off as wish fulfillment. But it wasn't bad enough to make me shy away from the series.

In FS, though, I really felt that Ish morphed completely into a GaryStu. Everyone loves him, he can do no wrong, he heals broken hearts with one conversation, solves technical puzzles that perplex a whole cast of officers with far more experience and knowledge than he has, etc etc etc. He's cute, he's successful, and the universe bends over backwards to accomodate him. I can't think of a single thing that really went wrong for Ish during the entire book.

Dr Lowell's use of the English language is largely acceptable; there's a couple typos and a couple odd word choices. He's fairly good at writing conversations, it may not be the best dialogue but I do think each character has their own voice, and to me at least it wasn't stilted, artificial, etc. If Ish were given a few faults -- a large zit on his nose? He fails at something? Drops a whole pan of Cookie's chicken and pasta dish? -- he might be a more likeable character. But for me, right now, he's too perfect.

I dream of Ish

Enderlame @ 2011-05-20

I've listened to the entire Solar Clipper series on podiobooks.com several times. I've lost track. I've also listened to Nathan Lowell's other works (e.g. Ravenwood and South Coast). Love it all, love Nathan's voice and reading, love the characters and the dialog, love the pacing and plotting, so on and so on. I will be buying these books in hard copy and ebooks as they are published and will likely wear them out, too. Nathan Lowell deserves our support. Ish deserves our hearts. I dream of Ish.

Better and Better

I am so bummed, finished the book the day it came out on Kindle and want more Trader Tales now! This is just an awesome series of books!

Real space opera!

Robert Kubichek @ 2011-05-19

This book and series belongs right up there with E. E. (Doc) Smith Lensman series.
I have the complete audio set and have listened to all of them many times.
You will not regret reading this book.
I could not stop until the very end.

Great transition book!

DC @ 2011-05-22

One of the major advantages to a series, as opposed to a single book, is having a major transition take up its own book, cover-to-cover, without consideration for leaving space before and after. The previous books in the series were great character development pieces and although this one speeds through time, I felt like the prior two stories had given me enough insight into the characters to fill in the pieces. I finished it and didn't feel wanting for anything but the next installment. Kudos, Nathan!

Heinlein Heir with Nathan Lowell - Outstanding Series Just Keeps Getting Better

Michael P. Gallagher @ 2011-05-21

If you haven't read the first two books in the series, you can read this one and it will be okay but I strongly recommend you read them so you can understand the dialogue of the characters and the dynamics of this excellent series. Start off with Quarter Share (Solar Clipper Trader Tales), then continue with Half Share (Solar Clipper Trader Tales), then you will be ready for this one.

Without having a spoiler, let me tell you what I really liked about this one. I love science fiction, and this one is really a coming of age series disguised as science fiction. If you like Robert Heinlein, you will absolutely love Nathan Lowell's work.

You continue the journey of Ish as he continues to mature from a boy into a responsible young man. I think what I like about nathan Lowell's Solar Clipper series is he does a masterful job of making you feel like you are one of the characters in the story. This next comment may sound really strange, but to me he tells you the details that most authors avoid without ruining the story of the interactions between people, what they are feeling, and even what they had for lunch and dinner. You find yourself rooting for Ish as you turn each page.

I've been waiting for this one to come out for a long time - now I can't wait for the next one in the series!

A Wonderful Read!

Michael Seeley "Mich @ 2011-05-20

The author's engaging style and fun plotline have been great to enjoy. I've read this book several times, and the plot always keeps me entertained. If you enjoy any nautical tales/quality science fiction, "Full Share" will be an enjoyable experience for you too!

Trust Lois and Nathan Lowell

Nathan Lowell delivers an another great chapter in the Life of Ish and the Lois. Great story you just can't put down. The Solar clipper series has been moved up to the top of my best reads ever list . Guaranteed great read

Full Share (Solar Clipper Trader Tales)

Patrick J Phillips @ 2011-05-20

Just an awesome series I have the complete audio for the series as well and have listen to it all a least 10 times over the years. If you still like a paper book as I do they will be available soon and you can get it autographed by the author which is very cool. you can find the fan page on Facebook Golden Age of Solar Clipper

Wonderful

I've been listening to audiobooks for years while at work. Nathan Lowell's creations are the only books I have listened to repeatedly. I'm so excited to see another book available to read. Looking forward to the hardcopy as well to help support the cause.

Hits all the notes perfectly

William Hughes @ 2011-05-20

Picked up the first in the series based on a recommendation by someone back in April (2011).
Today (May 21, 2011) I get the notification that this is now available - and I'm finished just under 9 hours later (most of which was occupied by trivial matters like work)

Thoroughly enjoyed this installment, with some great moments.
I certainly hope it's not the end of the story for Ishmael, Pip, Bev and Brill.

Ishmael Wang Grows Up

Geoffrey A. Snyder @ 2011-05-29

Unlike the first two in the series, this book has a bit of a plot - and certainly doesn't suffer because of it. The book also fills in more details about spacers and their families which is pretty interesting and well done. Its tightly written and well edited and once again I wanted to stay up all night reading.

This one covers a larger time span then the original two books - about a year and a half - and while Ish seems to have grown quite a bit, he still seems to have an almost supernatural ability to say exactly the right thing to women. Its really the only sticking point I have with this series - I kinda want him to occasionally do the cocky teenage thing once in a while ...

Had this been a trilogy, it wraps up Ish's 2year contract on the Lois McKendrick nicely and sets everything up for the next phase of his life. It was a good ending point for a the novel.

Fun Read

Neil Davis @ 2011-05-27

Quarter share was amazing in its own right. Where Full Share has it tough, but pulls through, is the transition. The protagonist is transitioning for a lost boy to a man. Full share does the 'coming of age' in a way that keeps true to the Solar Clipper storyline yet refocuses the story on a new track. I enjoyed the read tremendously, just do not expect it to be the same as the prior books.

What this book is: A good coming of age book in the style of Horatio Hornblower being able to choose his fate and be a gigolo too. A good capture of 'my fate is out of my hands feeling' of growing up.

What this book isn't: Full Share isn't as squeaky clean as prior Solar Clipper books. Some of the plot also felt too strongly 'nudged' to 'help' the personality and plot transitions on the protagonist. (It is still a well written novel.)

Nathan Lowell knows how to tell a story

rocketboy604 @ 2011-05-26

The funny thing is he breaks all the rules and it somehow works. These stories suck me in like nothing else, but it's not like there's a lot of crazy action, etc, to suck you in. It's just a good story about deep characters.

Full Share

Andrea L. Flint "The @ 2011-05-25

I can't wait for the next book in the series to become available in Kindle format. I have read science fiction for over 40 years and I love his take on the ordinary sailor being the object of the books. I really like the individuals in his book I can see them in my minds eye.

And Double Share will be out when??

eugene & happy @ 2011-05-25

At this point, Ish could read the phone book and I would be a fan. I happily admit to having no objectivity whatsoever about this series any longer. I was pathetically glad to see Full Share had finally arrived, and it derailed my entire weekend (no mean feat when you have two kids).

I don't figure anyone who has read Quarter Share and Half Share needs my opinion to prompt them to buy this book. They've all already happily one-clicked and started reading. If you've stumbled onto this page and haven't read any Nathan Lowell yet, go start at the beginning, and say hello when you get this far. Happy sailing.
