If you like word scrambles then Every Word is the game for you. Test your vocabulary as you try to find as many words from the scrambled letters in this fun and fast-paced word game.

You are given six or seven scrambled letters with the goal of finding as many words as you can. You score points by filling out the words in each empty spot on the board using only the letters that appear at the top of the game board. Keep at it until time runs out or until you fill up the board. The more words you make, the higher your score!

Your score is comprised of two components: first make a lot of words, second try to make the longest word possible. The best way to increase your score is to do both. Why? Because when you do, you earn the right to play a new level with a brand new set of letters. As long as you keep finding the longest word, you can move on to a new level and push your score higher and higher.

Another great game!

Wendy D. @ 2010-08-03

I just finished reviewing Shuffle Row and had to try this free game out as well. Just like the other this one is just as fun and easy to use.

You don't have to leave the wireless on to play it, and unlike some other games I have tried on the Kindle it also works EXTREMELY well in the Kindle environment.

Another feature I like in games is that they be super easy to play. This one fits the bill. I don't want the actual game to be easy, just the way you go about playing it. Nothing kills my interest in a game more then having the learning curve on how to work the game be harder than the game itself.

Nice graphics in this one as well.

Sometimes after I finish a book I'm not ready to jump right into another, or it is getting too late at night to start another. Playing these games will be a nice filler, especially in the situation where it is just to distracting to read.

Nice Job!

Every Word Games

M. Brandon "shelcat" @ 2010-08-06

The reviews are correct, this game is extremely addictive. I managed to get to level 7, scoring 11,870 points, until I could not figure out the longest word which forced me to forfeit the game. The beauty part is that yes, it started me over, but it kept my high score, and I started a new board that I had not tried before. I assumed the Level 1 would be the same Level that I had already mastered, but I am happy to say it was not. You will love this "free" game and will get more caught up in the actualy game than reading!! You have been warned!!

Very cool Game

Rachel M. Suffill @ 2010-08-03

Graphics are good. No need to turn the wireless on for gameplay and unlike other games, like Word Morph, you can actually input you answers and the kindle will understand what you have done.

***Update I see in some of the reveiws that people are mad that the games description does not tell you that it will not work on K1 or any of the apps. This is true, however the page does let you know this on the "Available on these devices" link under the price. If you click on it you will see neither the K1 or apps listed**

I am better at this than I usually am!

lesley9 @ 2010-08-05

I don't normally do so well on word scrambles (especially the paper versions) but am doing better than average on Every Word. One thing that really helps is your answers are alphabetized. So you can play with that to figure out the unfilled in words. Liked that once you got the biggest word, you can choose to carry on to find all the rest of the words, or skip instead to the next level (there are 10). Hope Amazon adds more of these addictive little games soon. Great fun!

I'm Already Addicted!

A Customer @ 2010-08-06

Got this game as soon as I saw it in the Store, and have been playing it non-stop for the last two days. Don't own a computer, so I had never seen it before, but I used to be an English teacher and had my students ply my own version of it. This is much better! My current high score is 31,690 - no cheating - but I WAS an English teacher and I play the relaxed game. I'm old and I'm slow. Great fun,and everyone can play, no matter what level you're at!!!

Playing Scabble with your cheating cousin.

L. Tholl @ 2010-08-17

Not a bad game at all but a good number of the words cannot be found in the dictionary. Sadly, quite a few simple, and real words are missed as possible answers. It is best to view this as a Beta. This could be a very good game with a thorough proofreading.

Every word counts and that's a good thing. Know what, it's free and that's another good thing

Rett01 @ 2010-08-03

You know what. It's fun, it's challenging and it's free. What more could you want. The danger is that you're going to get addicted and play when you should be doing something else.

Most of us have Kindles because we like/love to read. That implies we're word people. This is a word game and it's hard to resist. So download and give it a go.

There's no downside other than the fact you'll need to practice moderation. I wish I could find something to say that I'd like to see improved, but can't think of a thing. Keeps the mind working and that's a good thing.

So far, I've topped out at 1280. So that's the score to beat. Go for it.

I can't see the answers.

J. Carpenter "Joanne @ 2010-08-14

I really enjoy playing the game and I've wound up spending WAY too much time on it. However, I'd like to be able to view the words that I missed. The answers blink on in dark print for only a second and then turn to light gray. I can barely read them without a bright light shining right on the screen. My little clip on kindle light does not provide enough light to read them.

Surprisingly Good

Boot Girl @ 2010-08-03

I was wary of a timed game, as the Kindle's screen refresh rate, though excellent for reading, isn't quite on par with the rapid-fire pace at which my mother plays text-twist, the game on which Every Word is based. However, the Kindle is handling the speed beautifully, with the screen refresh pretty much keeping up. I've played/watched a lot of text-twist over the years, and haven't found this version too challenging yet, but maybe with time and higher levels it will get really tricky. All in all, I am very impressed with this new offering.

Great game and easy to play!

Janette @ 2010-08-05

What a great option for anyone looking to have a little extra fun with Kindle. The graphics and processing on this game are surprising better than I expected, and I like that you don't need a wireless connection to play. It is fun and easy to use, and I'm sure will have me spending even more time with my Kindle than I already do! Hopefully these games are the first of many for Kindle!

good, but odd words

anonymous @ 2010-12-15

I like the game and play it quite a lot. But I'm getting frustrated with the fairly common words it doesn't recognize, yet there are really odd ones in the list it comes up with.

tyre soya oms ups mus

PB @ 2010-10-29

As other reviewers have said, the words used are sometimes British spellings or are totally unknown words. As a result, I only play the relaxed game and don't stress too much if I can't get them all after entering random letter combinations. When I give up, I don't have any trouble seeing the words I missed on the display like another reviewer who said they were hard to read. I have not had any problems with technical glitches. Hard to complain too much about a free product but if they are thinking about improving it, why not connect it to the free dictionary that comes with Kindle so that at least the words are real and we can look up their meaning...or maybe have an English major look through the word list.

Fun, but with limits

SisbroMom @ 2010-09-27

I have generally had a good time with this game. My adult daughter and I have worked together on it at times so it can make for family fun. But it does have limits. There have been several words that I do feel are of very questionable taste, plus they do not appear on other word lists or in our unabridged dictionary so I have to wonder why they were included on the game's word list. I am far from a prude so I think they may have been put on the list just for shock value. There have been words that are sounds like psst and shhh so I have to remember to try unusual combinations and there have been a couple of words that are normally hypenated words and the hyphen has just been removed. There have been some Spanish words (without the tilde) but I haven't seen words from other non-English languages. There are sometimes words accepted by other word games that are not on this game's word list but if you are playing the relaxed game it doesn't cause a problem. My biggest issue with this game is that several times I've gotten to a level that does not have spaces for the longest word so even if I know the longest word it will not accept it and there is no way to move on to the next level. All that being said, it is a nice diversion and I especially enjoy taking it on trips to play in the car.

Fun and Games

Olga Bezhanova @ 2010-08-05

Just when I start thinking that Kindle cannot possibly get any better and afford me any more enjoyment than it already does, something happens to make me even happier that I bought it. Now that Amazon has introduced these two free games (which, for now, work only on Kindle 2 and Kindle DX) you can take breaks from reading and entertaing yourself with these great games.

The graphics look pretty sophisticated on both games. This tells me that Kindle's amazing capacities still have a lot of unexplored riches to be discovered. The game works very fast, doesn't require wireless, and is lots of fun.

I hope the owners of Kindle 1 soon get access to these games as well. It would be wrong for Amazon to abandon the early adopters of the device.

may mess up your kindle

lvmykindle @ 2010-12-17

The game itself is OK. While I find it a waste of my time, it is entertaining. However, many of the words are non-words in my opinion and I'd never guess them. (abbreviations, even). The worst thing about it (and this should be a Kindle review not a game review) is that after using this game several times, the letters on the buttons of my kindles are starting to wear off! Not too excited about that since the Kindle is only a month old. Just be aware that using your kindle for games may not be the best use of this otherwise wonderful device.

Every Word Sometimes

A. M. Hill "Buffy13" @ 2010-12-09

Fun to play but sometimes frustrating!!! I play this when I'm tired of reading. My major problem is that sometimes i'll play a word like "teem" or "seem", the game rejected both of those words however when I couldn't figure out the longest word and forfeited the game BOTH of those words showed up on the list! The longest word was BETIMES which is NOT part of my regular vocabulary. I've seen this before and up to about 20 minutes ago thought I was just imaging things. Imagine my surprise when I saw those two words in particular. I'll probably still play but maybe not as much as before. Maybe I'll just stick with Suduko, those 9 numbers seldom disappoint!!

Great Game But Wipes letters off Kindle Keys!

SFWallie "meroden" @ 2010-12-05

I love this game BUT in no time at all the white letters on my Kindle started wearing off and that has discouraged me from playing as often as I'd like. I've tried just putting in the letters with a fingernail but that isn't as quick or easy. All of which is a fault of Kindle and not the game.

Always a favorite word game of mine!

"bejis" "Bet @ 2010-11-07

I have played this games since I was in elementary school and it just never gets old - unlike me! This is the kind of game that trains the eye to look beyond what it sees and the brain to comprehend that there are 'real' words in a muddled mess of letters. As a child we took words like "Happy Thanksgiving" or "Merry Christmas" on the last day of school before the holidays and the child who found the most words in a short period of time received a wonderful little gift to take home. Now, the game has developed into mixing letters up and trying to find the 'longest' or 'real' word that is there, plus all the other words that are within it and the little prize you get other than the fact you gets points for finding the words, is that the game is free (at least for now)! It is an addictive game and challenging. If you are a 'wordaholic' like me, you'll be pleased with this game. Thanks again, Jeff, for this great game and thank you, Amazon, for the freebie!

every strange word

auntbootie @ 2010-10-13

I'm not a scrabble/word genius--and this game really proves it. Some of the words are just plain strange and common words are not included. I love the game, but cleaning up the dictionary would be a great improvement.

Easy to play though challenging - can pick up and put down quickly

Terri @ 2011-04-18

When I bought my Kindle I bought it to read books (which I do). However, I have become a big fan of this simple yet challenging little game. I was first attracted to it as a way to build mental agility for playing the game UpWords. UpWords is like Scrabble but more fun in my opinion because I prefer to concentrate on forming words and relationships while keeping the scoring simple. It does this and a lot more. I like Easy Words because:
- It is easy to play. The directions are not complicated.
- It is a challenge. The premise is simple but it is a mind tease to think of all the variations.
- The words are alphabetized which is helpful as this in itself can be instructive for filling in the blanks (i.e. a 3 letter blank between "ART" and "EAT" tells you that the first two letters are AR or higher, but lower than EAT... so EAR would be one example that would fit the blank.
- The interface is simple and works well. Tip-if you press the space bar, the last word you typed reappears to make input faster. So, you can reload "MAKE", add an "S", and quickly input "MAKES".
- The graphics are interesting. They did a nice job providing a visually rich context.
- It is fun way to pass a few minutes (or much longer - warning this can become addictive). So if you are stuck in line, you can easily pick up where you left off while paying attention to the world around you. I find this harder to do with a book.

My only suggestion for improvement is to link the words to a dictionary to make looking up the oddball ones quick and easy. I would like to be able to click on the word and see its definition.

BEWARE wears away the letters on the kindle

K. Hunt @ 2011-01-06

i love this game! it's a nice option on the kindle when you're in a room with other people and don't want to get too into a book. i also think it's good practice for scrabble :)

the reason why i came on here to write a review, and only give it 3 stars, is that after an hour or so of play the letters on the kindle wore off. i know that this has nothing to do with the actual game itself, but as a game created for the kindle i think it applies.

as it turns out, the kindle is just not made to be played with. i can't seem to find a solution to repair my brand-new kindle and i am very disappointed that after owning it only a few days i can no longer see the letters on the buttons. i will have to delete this game to keep from further damage and use my kindle only for reading.

Good game.

A Customer @ 2010-10-21

It is fun the first couple and then gets old after that. Odd words to. Words you have never heard of and would never guess. There are better games that take up a lot less memory. It is a good game for free. The graphics are pretty good. But spend your time on Triple Town or something. but it's free so it's a great deal.

Addiction

Alida Booth @ 2010-09-23

This game is completely addicting. I sit down to play on my break time at work and soon there are 5 or 6 people hovering behind me calling out words.
I loved my Kindle when I just carried books around in it. Now, I can stretch my brain, too.

Maybe "Many Words" a better title

Factory Girl @ 2010-09-14

I love this game. However, it has a very strange and incomplete dictionary. Many common words are not accepted and occasionally I see a word listed that I can't find in any dictionary I own. Sometimes acronyms are accepted and sometimes not - the same with names, places, slang, and non-English words.

I found the same problems with the "Shuffled Row" game (which I also like).

I hope there will be future versions of both games with larger, improved dictionaries.

Thanks Amazon!

Sheri Fogarty @ 2010-08-05

This is a really fun game which I ended up staying up too late playing. LOL

I think it was a great idea to have some word games for Kindle and both this and Shuffle Row are fun and get more challenging as you go along. My husband was playing as well. Thanks Amazon for the free games.

great game for kindle

this is a great game that is very addicting. there are a few weird words...but most of the required ones are not too weird. and seriously all these people writing 1 star reviews because it doesnt work on their kindle 1 need to stop. Engaging. Nice work.

Ranjeet Sonone @ 2010-08-05

We played this last night - simple experience, good engaging word game. Hate to miss the words that you can see when you "give up". That's what kept us going to do better next time. Finally, got late in the night and had to keep it down. We were stuck on a last 3 letter word for over 15 minutes! This game will also make you a better Scrabble player, I think.
This game is a good treat for the word game players out there!

Good game, great if you're a serious Scrabble player

D. Sparks @ 2010-08-04

Every Word is a very well made game that functions great on the Kindle. I've only spent 30 minutes or so with it so far, but I'm very impressed with the look and feel of the game. The one thing that leaves me a bit short is the word list. Especially the shorter, usually 3-letter words the game is looking for. I think maybe a serious Scrabble player would do a bit better than I did trying to pull the following 3 letter words out of the same letters that spell COUCHES: COS, ECU, HES, HOS, OCH, OHS, SEC, SOH, SOU. Those are words? I'm sure they are, but after a few puzzles like this you find yourself entering random 3-letter jumbles in hopes of scoring some points. 2 minutes is rarely enough time to get all the words anyway, so trying to figure out which obscure 3-letter words the game is looking for tends to make it a bit frustrating. Overall though, a fun game and a great way to spend a few minutes on your Kindle!

Every Word

Isis @ 2011-04-27

Every Word is a terrific game for fans of words games--the hours just go by, and it is really challenging. One thing that helps the play to be more user friendly is using an eraser stick (shaped like a mechanical pencil, but it contains just a retractable eraser) as my "stylus". The end is soft and does not hurt or scratch the keys, and the small size of the end is just right for the keys on the Kindle. It also affixes nicely to the little tab on the elastic on my Kindle cover. It also works well on many of the other Kindle games.

Every Word title is misleading

Gorilla of my dreams @ 2011-04-26

First, the title is misleading. It does not include "every" word and tells you so in the rules. What it does contain is some abbreviations, slang, alternate spellings of which most of us have probably never heard, and any number of "made-up" words (or if they do exist, they do not appear in the dictionaries on the Kindle).

It is very distracting to input a word that you know exists, like saute for instance, only to be told that it is not on the board, then you turn around and put in "duh" and it accepts it as a word. I spend a lot of time going back and forth between the game and the dictionaries on the Kindle. I must admit that I have learned a number of new words, but that does not allay my aggravation when I finally have to give up on a round with only 1 word left to finish that round, then find that last "word" is a made up word.

I understand that the game is free and I have had a lot of enjoyment from it, I just need to vent my frustration with these aggravating aspects of the game.

A Longtime Fan

Steve Taylor @ 2011-04-23

I've been playing this game online for years and I still stink at it. Now I can feel stupid anywhere with the Kindle version. You gotta love that. Free is a great price for a fun game. Nothing new - this game has been around forever but with my age quickly approaching the old status it's good for the brain to stay active and games like this help. I highly recommend it.

Brain Challenge

Smarts @ 2011-04-23

I like this game. It is very fun to play. The big words are what I like to get first. It can sometimes be frustrating, but that is okay. I reccomend this game for people that have a large vocabulary.

Addictive and fun to do with family!

Kristy L. Lyons @ 2011-04-18

My daughter is almost 12 and between the two of us, we enjoy playing this game. She has shown other friends and they tend to find it as addicting as my daughter and I do. Plus, an added bonus is, it's FREE!

Most Addicting Game!!

Lindsay M. Laird @ 2011-04-03

I'm a huge word-nerd, and this game is VERY addicting! In the game, you are given a bunch of jumbled up letters, and you have to find all of the words within those letters. The catch is that you can't move on to the next level until you have found the longest word. Sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's pretty challenging, but you always end up learning new words. This game really helps pass the time if you're bored, too. It's a great riding-in-the-car-for-long-periods-of-time game. If you love word games, please download this!

I'm obsessed!

OneAmongMany "OneAmo @ 2011-03-21

I love word games, and this one is so much fun! The game play functionality is great (just type and hit enter). A couple notes for those who may be interested in buying this game:
1) You play thru level 10. Nothing beyond that. (I'd prefer to play until I lose, rather than just 10 levels, but it's still fun to try to beat my previous score.)
2) I sometimes get the same words in a game, which is great for someone who's like, "dang, I missed that word?!" :) You can get it the next time.

Some possible improvements to another edition of the game:
1) Let us play past level 10.
2) Add in a dictionary - sometimes I'm like, "that's a word?" but would have to exit the game to go look it up.

Otherwise, a really great game for the word-game beginner or guru!

love it

Tonya Ricucci "unrul @ 2011-03-12

I love this game and have played it a lot. Perfect for waiting in a doctor's office. the only reason I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is that there isn't enough variety in the games. At this point I'm willing to pay for a version that has more variety - I definitely love it that much.

Every Word is addictive and fun

Christopher Gordon " @ 2011-02-04

I love word games and am an avid crossword puzzle solver, Scrabble Player (computer and people) and love number and word games of many other formats. EVERY WORD for Kindle might seem a little unimaginative but after playing it for a while it's hard to put down. It is a list of letters where you form words from those letters, early levels have a minimum of 3 letter words and higher levels have a minimum of 4 letter words. You must find the longest word possible (all given letters) to continue to the next level, and there are ten levels to a game. Total game points are kept for record purposes.

There are two main ways to play: timed or not timed. I prefer not timed since I am more interested in what words I come up with rather than try to play Beat The Clock. I have completed 5 games so far, my current goal is to finish a game with every level completely filled in. So far I'm up to 8 perfect levels (out of ten) in one game. Some levels are easier than others, the one I just finished was very difficult but had many interesting and long words (long words award the highest points). You are given a hint for words not found as found words are displayed in alphabetical order. So if you are wondering what other words are left to find, check between letters in the found words columns. Nothing says you can't experiment, no lost points for making an invalid word, it is just ignored. I don't consider this a cheat since some words are obscure ones.

Be sure to use the NEXT PAGE button for scrambling the leftover letters and the SPACE BAR for putting back the last word formed. These shortcuts can save time, for example if an "S" is in the list, if you formed a valid word, after it has been entered press the SPACE BAR and add "S" (if the word has a valid plural). Sometimes looking over the list of letters proves fruitless so a shuffling of the letters is helpful. You can also do a partial shuffling if you have already entered some letters and want to shuffle what's left.

Hey, the price is right - $0.00, so don't delay if you like word games at all, you should like this one. I didn't give it 5 stars since there are other more complex word games available in the world. But I think this ranks fairly high for what it is and for the Kindle.

Okay game

A Customer @ 2011-01-25

This game is fun but most of the time the longest word is something bizzare. Personally I think that the game should be a little easier so kids would be able it own their own. My 11 year old daughter needs my help to play it.

not enough words in database

Oressa Wise @ 2011-01-02

I like this game a lot, but after playing for only a few days, the same letter collections kept popping up. If I'm going to work so hard to find all the little bitty words, I don't want to see the same 6 or 7 letters all over again. How could I tell? Because the 7-letter words keep repeating. Please enlarge the database for this game. Otherwise, it quickly loses appeal.

like an open bag of potato chips, it keeps calling you back..

E. Faller @ 2010-12-27

The Kindle came for Christmas, and I couldn't stop playing as it is highly addictive. On my first day I made it to the end of Level 10, and started right over again. I love anagrams and this fills the prescription. As many people mention, there are some odd choices for words, and some real words, often common ones, and/or ones that crossword puzzle fans use often, that are not on the list, but the challenge remains to figure out what those missing words are. I enjoy the fact that when the set of letters pops up, I often wonder if I will find even 10 words, and in a short time, I've found more than half. Keeps the brain flexible (now that the body is not...). Like the open bag of chips, it keeps calling to me and I find myself running back to it to enter just one more word. Luckily the game is not as fattening as the chips and makes a great substitute! My highest score so far is 36300, and I'm aiming higher.

OK but repetitive

rosalie K. phillips @ 2010-12-15

This game is fun for awhile but there are way too many archaic words or words not in common usage to be helpful as a mind exercise. Also, the more you play, the more you see the same words over and over.

My kids and I have always amused ourselves with quick games of hangman, but this is enthralling.
We're hunched over the Kindle for an hour sometimes, working on the last several stumpers.

No matter, there's always time to read later. Right now I've got 3 words left that are driving me nuts!

Gotta go.

For those who are looking to kill 20 minutes here or there and enjoy figuring out how many words you can make out of a collection of letters, this is a pretty enjoyable brain teaser. It's worked flawlessly for me with a couple of different game modes to try out. You don't have to be connected to the wireless to play and it's free so all things considered, it a pretty sweet game.
