Is it love, or just a little harmless sex? Book one in the Harmless series.
Max has always been Anna's knight in shining armor. But Max has always seen her as a charming, and very sexy, little sister.

Until Max's cold fiance dumps him, Anna unloads another of her many conquests and she invites him over for margaritas and Mexican food. Too much tequila, too much flirting, and too many years of fighting the attraction -- Max loses control and has mind-blowing sex with Anna on her couch. And in her shower. And in her bed.

When the sun rises the next morning, both of them must face that their night together is just the first of many. For Max, he knows he wants Anna forever, but convincing a commitment-phobe like Anna is no easy task. For Anna, she can't believe she has finally slipped beneath Max's steely self-control. He is every woman's dark, wet fantasy come true. But what happens when the Max pushes Anna for more than just A Little Harmless Sex?

This book was previously published, but has been substantially revised and expanded for Samhain Publishing.

Warning, this title contains the following, explicit sex, graphic terms for body parts, torture via silk stockings, a little spanking, and shower and office sex.

A yummy start to this series

Book and Dog Lover @ 2007-10-07

Max Chandler and Anna Dewinter have always been the best of friends. While each have been secretly attracted to the other, they've never acted on that attraction - why mess with a great friendship and besides they've never both been free at the same time. When Max's fiancée breaks up with him and Anna breaks up with her boyfriend, they find themselves both free. Anna suggests a party at her place to celebrate and after way too much tequila, they act on their attraction.

Max is the CEO of his family business. He really didn't love his former fiancée - she was the daughter of one of his business partners and he thought she'd make a good business executive wife. But one night with Anna makes him realize who he really wants and that someone is Anna. Max knows that all of Anna's relationships don't last long - she always breaks up with her boyfriends after a month, but he's determined to be different.

Anna is a very independent woman, not caring what other people think. She's crazy about Max, but her past has made her leery of relationships. She's determined to treat Max like all of her previous boyfriends. Can Max stop her?

I really enjoyed this book. It's steamy, but the sex, the dialog, the relationship all ring true. I'm not sure how this book was before the author expanded it so if you read an earlier version, I'm not sure how different this version is. I do know that this was a fun read. I liked Max and Anna and enjoyed reading their story. Although it's a quick read (just under 200 pages), it's well worth spending an afternoon reading this book.

This book is the start of the Harmless series (the next book being about Max's ex-fiancée and best friend) and if this is a hint of what's to come, a series that I'm looking forward to!

A Little Harmless Sex

Never letting a man break her heart again, Anna always called the shots in a relationship. With only one man enriched in her life, Anna knew Max was safe. After all, he was getting married and nothing could mess up him and Anna's friendship. At least, that's what she thinks until her feelings for this handsome man turn a little more passionate.

Max knows breaking off his engagement is the right thing to do. Especially when he finds out his best friend, Anna, is now single too. His feelings for her have crossed the line, but he knows he'll have to play things carefully or otherwise Anna will run away from him.

A Little Harmless Sex takes us on a wonderful ride as friends develop into lovers. For Max, he wants all Anna can offer. Both characters are complex and lively. They bring excitement and pleasure to a story that already has an interesting plot. Ms. Schroeder's words flow with ease and will quickly pull you into this story.

Fun and Frisky

Kally Jo Surbeck @ 2007-09-24

I have been lucky enough to be Miss Schroeder's friend and critique partner for several years. I have been treated to all the books in the Harmless series and I don't think it could have been kicked off with anything more fun and frisky than this compelling tale of Max and Anna. It's high time to see feisty heroines who are outspoken, know what they want and work hard to get it. In the same respect, Max is a gentleman who cares about the heroine as a friend and as a lover. I highly recommend this series.

When a sexy read brings a great story it deserves a great rating!

Felicia Sparks "The @ 2011-03-11

How was the Sexy? The sexy sizzled! It was HOT HOT HOT. It did not feel cheap or forced. In fact it held all those qualities that made it sweet and sweaty at the same exact time. The chemistry between Anna and Max was off the charts and kept you wanting them to get together more.

How was the Story? The story is what I really loved about this book. It was a full-fledged love story of the best kind! They were two people made for each other and I liked that the guy is the one who figured it out first. While their "sexy" was fantastic, it was the emotional connection that really made this book zing!

Complaints: None!

Why I gave it a 4.5: When a sexy read brings a great story it deserves a great rating! I will be reading this book again !

Who I would recommend it too: Erotic Romance Readers that like a very good story with some very hot smexy!

Worth a Read

Aimee "Coffee Table @ 2011-04-13

This was a nice story. It felt a little short but I still liked the characters and the plot. I was looking for something a little more steamy though. I love Schroeder's writing though, so I'm going to read the rest in this series.

I liked the story, two friends from childhood who finally come together. I understand the side of the "why ruin the friendship" thinking and enjoyed the struggle of the characters. I didn't particularly care for the ex-fiancee because I thought the story seemed rushed through this part and I would have loved to see it play out more. But overall, good story and worth a read.

Great and steamy in all the right places

B. Walker @ 2009-04-12

What can I say? I loved the book. I loved the cover. I loved the experience. Really I'm at a loss for words. A LITTLE HARMLESS SEX is the first book in Melissa's Harmless series. I've been wanting to read this one for a while and was finally able to take the time out and do it.

There is of course great sex but there is also humor, uncontrollable emotions and the journey from friends to lovers to true love. Melissa's characters felt real to me and made me want to know them better.

I'll be reading the second story in the HARMLESS series A LITTLE HARMLESS PLEASURE. I have a feeling its going to be another great read.

bad

Candence @ 2011-05-10

Like the title implies this book is all sex. It seems like the characters are supposed to be deep, but it's hard to care about them when all they do are pout, misunderstand, and have sex. Along the way the book indicates that something bad happened to Anna that put her off serious relationships. I kept expecting it to be some big thing, and it turned out to be a very shallow, juvenile reason. I usually like this genre, but I found myself skimming through it. The sex was run of the mill. Overall it was predictable and boring

The best of friends and...

Nela @ 2011-05-03

This book was very good-- Max and Anna are best friends with a little bit of the unrequited lust thing going on. Anna has a secret, Max has his honor and they both have each other but not in the way they even know they want. I liked the premise of this book and I like that it wasn't hokey or repetitive. You are introduced to the characters in a real and beleiveable way. Nothing comes out of nowhere in that "are you bloody SERIOUS?!" way that you just can't believe and it takes you out of the story. This book is nothing like the ones that do that. It gets pretty steamy but again, it's something you will find yourself wanting your significant other to read just so you can try some of the things in the book...that's pretty impressive.

Characters are memorable

English Teacher @ 2011-05-03

In a genre in which characterization is often lacking (coming right up, up one alpha male + one feisty, beautiful female), Schroeder delivers something a little more believable. Yes, we still get the alpha male and pretty girl, but they come to us a bit more human with character flaws, some less-than-desirable traits and histories. But each is likable. The relationship's shift from friendship to affair is a bit abrupt and fast, but the following evolution towards marriage and happiness is not. Fun romps. Jealous, confused 20-something males and females abound. Stress of growing up/being responsible. Mix in a little--or a lot of--alcohol. HEA. All in all, quite enjoyable.

Sweet, hot story!

Jolene Kendry "Autho @ 2011-05-01

I was pleasantly surprised that a free story was so good. I found the characters believable and the story rather heartwarming. The sex scenes were extensive and full of emotion, which served to make them even hotter. Not only is this a great piece of erotica on its own, but other erotica authors who are looking to see how it's done would be well advised to read as much of Melissa Schroeder's work as they can get their hands on.

A Little Harmless Sex (One Hot Read ! A Must Read!)

A Little Harmless Sex by : Melissa Schroeder

This author delivers with magic and intent. The story flows along so smoothly that you simply can't put this book down. I wish all books were this enjoyable. I simply can't say enough how pleased I am by this book.
A story of long friendship and a hearts long withheld desire. Max a business man whose best friend is Anna, a strong free spirit who has loved him for almost forever. When Max gets dump by his fiancé who does he hang with? Why it`s his best buddy Anna, the sexy almost little sister that has held his friendship since they were young. Anna, the free spirit that has listened to his not so tale of woe as they enjoy an evening of good food and drink and a lot of laughter and memories. This is the first time Max and Anna have not been attached to anyone else, and the sexual tension between these two just begins to rise to levels neither have felt before. Anna's secret heart's desire for Max can only be hidden for just so long. But the words are the only thing that Anna keeps to herself. The light goes on in Max's mind, and the heat begins to sizzle to levels that just keep getting better and better. It isn't long before passion for Max that Anna held in secret is let loose when they come together like gas to flame. Max hidden desire may be new in Max's mind, but definitely not in touch. These two are so into each other on all levels. They pages literally steam when they come together. The passion and sexy and sensuality each time they come together just burns with so much hotness.
This wonderful author has captured this readers heart with her book "A Little Harmless Sex". Ms. Schroeder has the ability to bring her characters to life with such a gift of plot development and the weaving of story telling. You come to care for these people and feel everything they go through as the story flows with grace and style. I enjoyed this book so very much and was not disappointed. Any reader of erotic romance who wants to fall in love with the characters and feel as they can step into the pages along side them will not be disappointed. Melissa Schroeder is gifted in her writing and the stories she tells in her wonderful book Little Harmless Sex. I have all her other books on my must have reading list, and I can't wait to read all of her "ALH " (A Little Harmless...) series. I encourage anyone who has a passion for a red hot read to not ignore or pass this book up, for you will miss an awesome story that just begs to be read.

A great start to a steamy series!

RomanceReader "R.Rea @ 2010-11-08

I have read all three books that are currently out on this series, and I love it! First I love a good series. Bringing back people from past books always makes me feel engaged in the story...and this series does that perfectly. There are some story lines that appear to be woven through all of the books, that I imagine will end up being solved or explained by the end of the series.

The books are steamy and erotic. This first one was great. The characters were dynamic, and I wanted to cheer for them both. There was never a dull moment, and I felt the story moved seemlessly together. The people were hot, the story was hot, and I can't wait for more of these books to come out. I wish Amazon allowed a favorite aurthor list for an account. Ms Schroeder would be on it!

3 stars

J. Holmes @ 2011-05-25

This story was pretty good for a freebie. I like the idea of friends becoming lovers and it helps when you like the characters. I liked both Max & Anna and was rooting for them all the way.

There were a few things about the story that I didn't like. 1)I hated how the author kept city-name dropping. I get it...you either live in GA or you did your homework on the different city names. I thought it was overkill. 2)Both characters stayed true to themselves...until the very end. Max was totally out of character with the hateful things he said to Anna. Anna was totally out of character when she didn't confront Max. Other than those two things, I thought the story was pretty good. I will continue the series.

Not bad

LuvMyKindle @ 2011-05-18

This is my first "steamy" romance book and I thought it was pretty good. There were portions that could use a little help and at times it did feel a little jumpy but overall I thought it was well written. I will probably continue to read the series.

Loved it....

Nita @ 2011-05-14

I loved this story and rated it 5 stars. However, I did not like Max's response when Anna thought he was back with his fiance. I wanted to just hit him but that was just me.

I have found several wonderful authors - Cherise Sinclair with the Shadowland's series (HOT, HOT, HOT), the Out of Uniform series by Elle Kennedy and Bella Andre seems to be just as good (Ecstasy is the only one I own right now).

I can't believe I got this for free!

River "River" @ 2011-05-13

Frankly, I am shocked a book of this length and this quality is being offered for free. The writing style is amazing, very free-flowing, quick, and witty. The characters are well developed and likable, with problems and dreams that are easy to relate to. The sex is hot, although there seems to be a lot of humming involved. I think the author's humming fetish is coming through. ;)
The only issue I had with the story is that it follows the classic romance book formula: couple who keeps misunderstanding each other, they have to deal with a series of hurdles to their relationship, but they deal with the hurdles and by the end, admit their love for one another. Once the love is announced then everything is great, the end.
A lot of people like this formula, that's why so many romance books follow it, but I think it can get stale after a while. But this book is much better written than a lot of other romance stuff I've seen in the book store, and...IT WAS FREE.

One hot read!

1119 @ 2011-05-11

I'm still feeling the steam off my Kindle after reading this story! I got it as a free read but really enjoyed this author's writing style. I am a sucker for a "best friends turn into lovers" kind of story and this one had the right amount of heat and passion mixed with touching moments of vulnerability in it to keep me turning the pages. I'll be sure to check out more from this author.

What a great Find!!!!

Manuela @ 2011-05-10

This book is a Great Find. The story line was awesome, well developed characters and the Sex was insane. Love love love it.

Liked it!

Princess Nhya "Ebone @ 2011-05-09

This was a short sweet & very sexy read. U get alot of story for such a short amount of pages. Which is good. U get a feel for the types of people Max and Anna are and how their long standing friendship and personal beliefs & fears would make them getting together not only believable, but would have u rooting for it happen. If you are looking for a quick heartfelt, sexy read then I would recommend this one.

A Little Harmless Sex

Venetia Marshall "ve @ 2007-09-24

This is the second book of Melissa's and I loved the book. It was fun and entertaining and really hot. I hope see keeps up the good work.

This book is fun and the characters are very belivable. The book is wonderful and you won't want to stop reading till its done. I hated to see it end.

Not all that good

Adrienne Andersen "D @ 2011-05-05

This is the first time in my history of reading romance novels that I just skipped the sex scenes. Not because they were raunchy, but simply because there was no chemistry between the characters. To me without some kind of romantic feelings involved, sex scenes are just annoying. I can't quite define what about the story turned me off, but it felt like the author was telling me everything, and not really showing me the relationship between these two. You would think with Max and Anna being best friends for so long there would more chemistry, and less misunderstandings. It was just bizarre. The reason Anna treated men like expendable toys: very juvenile. I expected a sort of traumatic event to have taken place, and really it was a bunch of high school nonsense. Max's character came off as very childish. I blame the writer for that because she kept making references to pouting, and little boys, and Anna kept thinking about him as cute. A big turn-off. During sex he was this controlling and dominant male, but in every thing else he was pouting or neanderthal, it was disjointed. It felt like a teenager's point of view. The whole time I read this book, I kept thinking, this author must have really hated high school, cause everything kept going back to that. Overall, not a terrible book, but I don't think I'll read anything else from this author.

Couldn't Even Finish It!

Kate Eliz @ 2010-05-04

This book was too jumpy for me to even finish! One second he thinks of her as a friend, then hes suddenly in love with her and they are having sex. There was no build up and the characters are very flat. At least what I read of them was.
