Learn French with your own personal language tutor.

24-7 French - Basic Phrases is a fun way to learn a language. Going beyond a phrasebook or set of flashcards, this title provides a set of interactive study tools to help you learn the language, including traditional flashcards, a multiple choice quiz, an entertaining hangman-style game, and a write-in quiz to test language recall.

Content includes conversational phrases organized in 12 categories including First Phrases, Greetings, Getting to Know, Communication, Questions, Wants, Needs, Feelings, Common Expressions, Interjections, To Go, and other common and miscellaneous phrases. French - Basic Phrases is different from 24-7's other French language tutor title French - Vocabulary in that it provides full phrases versus basic vocabulary terms.

French - Basic Phrases is a useful tool for beginners who may wish to refresh basic French skills, and a great companion for a trip in a French-speaking country.

Could be useful for intermediate students, but not for tourists

Jeremy Aldrich @ 2011-02-26

I am a French teacher and enjoyed the 24/7 Vocabulary programs for French and Spanish, so I thought I'd check this out too. In 12 categories with about 25 phrases each (for a total of more than 300 phrases), the program works quite similarly to the vocab programs: you can do a variety of activities like multiple choice quizzes, hangman, typing in the words, or looking at flashcards.

Although the underlying idea is solid and the vocabulary selected could be useful for a variety of situations (I especially enjoyed the "Interjections" category), I couldn't get around one important thing: without pronunciation help this program is practically useless for tourists or people who don't already know how to pronounce the words in this very non-phonetic language! If you're an intermediate/advanced student with a good foundation in French pronunciation, this could be a useful tool for review and for picking up a few phrases not usually covered in most textbooks - nothing too colloquial or idiomatic here, but lots of go-to phrases for keeping a conversation going.

It's decent...

If you have a basic knowledge of French, this can help you with WHAT to say.The phrases and vocabulary can be useful, but if you're looking for HOW to pronounce the words, look elsewhere.
